Here are some pictures of the current condition of the basement. The basement had a ceiling height of about 7 ft 5 inches. The plan is to dig 8 inches of crap out and pave 4 inches of new concrete. In the end I will have about 8ft of ceiling height.

After breaking the thin concrete, all we found was sand.
After digging 8", I definitely notice a difference in the ceiling height.
